Abstract

Against a backdrop of rising costs for energy, fertilisers and plant protection products, resource-efficient cultivation techniques are becoming particularly important; a key element of these is the use of bacterial and biological growth regulators for pre-sowing seed inoculation and foliar feeding of plants. The aim of the study was to determine the effect of pre-sowing treatment of bean seeds with individual biological preparations and their mixtures, in combination with foliar feeding with biofertiliser, on the yield of the Panna and Mavka varieties in the Eastern Forest-Steppe of Ukraine. Field studies were conducted in 2023–2025 on typical heavy loam chernozem on carbonate loess at the ‘Dokuchaevsk Experimental Field’ Research Centre of the State University of Biotechnology. The experimental design included the following treatments: control (dry seeds); water; potassium humate; Azotix; Azotix + potassium humate; Azotix + potassium humate + a single application of Mega Harvest; Azotix + potassium humate + two applications of Mega Harvest. It was established that the biological products used had a positive effect on plant density, survival rate, and biometric, symbiotic, photosynthetic and structural parameters. On average, over the three years of the study, the grain yield of the Panna bean variety across the experimental treatments ranged from 1.13 to 1.41 t/ha, for the Mavka variety – from 1.06 to 1.35 t/ha, with the lowest yield in the control group and the highest when Azotix and potassium humate were used for pre-sowing seed treatment and two-time top-dressing of crops with the Mega Harvest biofertiliser. The greatest yield increase was achieved in the variants involving the combined use of biological preparations: 0.28 t/ha or 24.8% for the Panna variety, and 0.29 t/ha or 27.4% for the Mavka variety, compared to the control. We recommend pre-sowing treatment of bean seeds with the biologically active preparations Azotix and Potassium Humate in combination with double foliar feeding with the biofertiliser Mega Harvest during the period of intensive plant growth (the branching and budding phases).
