The article analyzes the geodemographic characteristics of suburban territorial communities of the city of Ternopil. The publication examines the features of the population of 6 suburban communities: Baykivtsi, Bila, Velyka Berezovytsia, Velyki Birky, Velyki Hayi, and Pidhorodne. In these administrative units, population growth has been observed since the 1980s as a result of the suburbanization process. However, since 2022, the population of these communities has begun to decrease mainly due to the active phase of the Russian-Ukrainian war. The number of residents of the Baykivtsi community continues to grow due to active housing construction. Out of 64 settlements in the suburban zone of the city of Ternopil, population growth is noticeable in 13, and a decrease in population in 51 settlements, which is reflected in the corresponding map. Population growth is typical in villages bordering the city, while in remote settlements the number of residents decreases. The change in village populations during the 20th century is analyzed using the example of settlements in the Pidhorodne territorial community. The sex-age structure of the population is characterized using the example of settlements of the Baykivtsi community. There is a noticeable trend towards population aging, especially with the distance of villages from administrative centers. Indicators of natural and migration population growth are analyzed using the example of the Velyka Berezovytsia territorial community. It is characterized by negative natural growth but a positive population migration balance. Accordingly, villages near the city of Ternopil have better indicators of natural and migration growth, unlike more remote settlements. The dynamics of the population of suburban communities of the city of Ternopil were significantly affected by the Russian-Ukrainian war, which led to increased migration and a decline in settlement populations.
